Planning a house party? You have lot many things to do, starting from the guest list , to drinks, to food, to music, to decor or activities. All of these take some time but choosing menu seems most difficult. Though you can  order food from outside but there are some easy  all purpose recipes which are hassle free and leave your guests amazed with your hospitality and also help you save money for the next party. Preparations for these can be done in advance so that you are not spending whole time standing in kitchen during the party. It is suggested to keep one or two filling snacks ready to serve as the guests come, because guests must be hungry getting ready for your party whole evening. This will also save the wastage of food as you and guests might get busy later in other activities and miss the food. Also, this will help them not getting tipsy with few starting drinks if had empty stomach.

Here are some of the easy party recipes that look good as well as taste good. And yes… no deep frying in any of these recipes.

Mini Burgers:

Prep time: 30 mins , Arranging time : 5-10 mins

For these, all you need are ready made Buns, Lettuce, tomato slices, Cheese slices, Ketchup, toothpicks to assemble and boneless chicken pieces or paneer. In a pan put some oil and cook chicken/paneer from both sides with dash of salt and pepper. Arranging these for 15-20 people will take you not more than ten minutes. This looks tempting and is filling.

Pizza Bread :

Prep time : 15 mins , Cooking time : 5-10 mins

Simple ingredients include Bread slices( or Brown ones for the health conscious), Chopped onion, capsicum, boiled/steamed corns, shredded cheese, ketchup or pizza sauce and cooked chicken chunks(optional). Can be done in grille or oven or even in pan(Just cover the pan with the lid on low flame till cheese melts). Each bread can be sliced further in four pieces for easy serving.

Sausage Salami Salad:

Prep Time : 15 mins , Cooking time : 5 mins

All ingredients of this recipe are optional. Even if you miss one or two, the taste remains same but don’t miss the seasonings. Chop sausages and salami and stir fry for 2-3 minutes in oil or butter. Add boiled pasta followed by chopped capsicum, bell peppers, onion , cherry tomatoes, olives and salami and sausages. Garnish with little bit of salt and pepper.

Fried Rice:

Prep Time : 20 mins , Cooking Time : 20 mins

Again this one is very versatile depending on your choice of ingredients and seasonings. Put some oil in a pan and add cooked rice, add chopped vegetables like capsicum, broccoli, boiled peas, onion, beans or you may add cooked boneless chicken or tofu. Add salt and pepper. Serve it like this or add some twist with the seasonings.

For Chinese flavors, add soy sauce, vinegar and chilly garlic sauce.

For Indian flavors, in separate pan heat oil, add cumin, chopped ginger garlic, turmeric, red chili powder and coriander powder and add it to rice and mix. Good for snacking as well as for main course.

Stir fried chicken:

Prep Time: 10 min , Cooking Time : 8-10 mins



Marinate boneless chicken cubes(1×1 to 2×2 cm size) in oil, salt, pepper and lime juice for one hour.Put some oil in pan and stir fry for 5-6 minutes on high flame.

Chinese version: Put oil in a pan, add marinated chicken and cook on high flame for 5-6 minutes . In between add vinegar, soy sauce and chilly garlic sauce. Towards the ends, add chopped capsicum and onion. As yummy as chilly chicken and not fried.

Indian version: Put oil in pan and add cumin seeds , chopped ginger garlic, turmeric powder, red chili powder and coriander powder. Cook for 5-6 minutes on high flame. Garnish with fresh coriander leaves. As yummy as chicken tikka but much easier to cook.

Can be mixed with cooked rice or noodles. Same recipes can be done with Tofu or Paneer or cottage cheese instead of Chicken.


Hung Curd Fruit Salad :

Prep Time: 15mins , Serving: 2mins

This refreshing and healthy fruit salad always shines on the table.

Hang 500 gram curd in muslin cloth for one to two hours till all of its water drains. In a bowl, mix one pomegranate’s pearls, 2 chopped apples, half chopped pineapple, 250 gram grapes and one chopped pear. Now add hung curd and black pepper as per taste. This can be prepared in advance and kept in refrigerator in a covered glass bowl and will stay fresh for few hours.  Left over can be eaten next morning in hangover.

Fruit Cheese Platter:

Total time : 15mins

Add elegance to the table with this platter. This masterpiece goes best with wine. All you need are some sliced fruits like apple, pineapple, grapes, watermelon, canned olives ,cherries, berries and sliced cheese or you may add small bread pieces. Just put bread on base, then cheese slice and top it with any of the above fruits and insert a tooth pick.

Grilled Fish:

Prep time:5 mins , Cooking Time 10 minutes.

This one is super easy and delicious. Get any boneless fish cut into cubes. Marinate in salt, black  pepper,garlic and lemon for an hour. Warm the pan add bit of oil and butter and place marinated fish cubes . Cook from each side for 4-5 minutes on medium high flame. Ready to serve.

For Chinese flavor: Add vinegar, soy sauce and chili garlic sauce while marination.

For Indian Flavor: Add turmeric powder, red chili powder and coriander powder during marination.

Serve it with garlic bread for main course.

Hassle free frozen food:

Lot may options are available as  vegetarian and non vegetarian frozen snacks in all super markets. These include French fries, seekh kebabs, sausages, nuggets, chicken balls and lot more. You just have to pick those which can be either done in microwave or pan fried like seekh kebabs or sausages. Some can be done in grille or air fryer like French fries or nuggets. Any of these won’t take more than 20 minutes and that too while chit chatting.

Play with Salsa:

Total time : 10 mins

Salsa adds tangy freshness to any snack or side dish. Simply take three  finely chopped tomatoes, one  finely chopped onion, two finely chopped garlic cloves, one lemon juice, coriander, salt and pepper. Just mix all these and go ahead.

This can be served with all above snacks or Nachos or garlic bread or roasted peanuts or any other chips. Similarly other ready made dips can be served with nachos and chips if you are short of time.
